My father was a dentist, he had a patient who made leather belts. I asked if he could teach me how to make belts. I was 12 years old at the time. He taught me for about one hour and then turned me loose. I really didn't have enough knowledge to proceed, so I did lots of reading and research and learned to make beautiful belts. Over the years I have made purses, visors, wallets, sandals, and of course hand grips. All of my extra spending money in Jr. High and High School was earned from making and selling my handiwork. I put myself through college selling belts at our local flea market, and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Robert O Anderson school of management.
Shortly after college, I ran into the brother of a former track mate of mine at the gym. He was wearing a pair of palm guards for weight lifting. My first thought was to make a fingerless weight lifting glove, but when I learned that there wasn't a US manufacturer of hand grips, I knew that this was what I had to do. I did lots of research, and formulated special processes based upon my many years of experience making leather products. US Glove has been in business since April of 1985 (24 years). I have been making leather goods products for 38 years. Two of my staff have been leather craftsmen for over 30 years each. Another staff member has worked with me for 14 years, another for 10 years, and aother for 4 years. No other hand grip company on earth has more skilled craftsmen working for them. Our largest distributor sells every brand of hand grips available, and he has told me that his company gets the fewest returns (for manufacturing defects) from our product line.
